Fair and Transparent Procurement
TARBA members deliver billions of dollars in critical infrastructure across the Greater Toronto and Simcoe areas. The success of construction projects starts at the procurement stage and TARBA supports the award of contracts to the lowest qualified bidder. We work collaboratively with public project owners to support best practices in procurement, including the timely and transparent award of contracts, two-stage prequalification and bidding processes, and prompt payment. We also propose solution to help accelerate construction timelines and reduce traffic gridlock.
Sustainable Infrastructure Funding
Maintaining public infrastructure in a state of good repair (SOGR) is the most cost-effective way to ensure safe and ongoing operations. However, capital underspending and growth pressures have put SOGR and much-needed expansion efforts at risk. In its 2021 report, the Financial Accountability Office estimated that municipal roads represented the largest share of the infrastructure backlog at $21.1 billion, a number that has only grown since. For example, City of Toronto’s SOGR backlog alone is projected to increase from $10.6 billion to $22.7 billion by 2033.
Predictable Locates
The late delivery of locates costs us all, jeopardizing the timely completion of critical infrastructure projects like roads and housing. We continue working with One Call to create accountability and predictability in the locate delivery system and ensure that contractors can trust the legislated timelines for their projects.
Skilled Labour
In the Greater Toronto Area alone, the construction sector will have to hire 59,800 more workers by 2030 to offset retirements and meet strong demand and investments. TARBA continues to work with our employer, union, and community partners to support the next generation of construction professionals get started and advance in their careers.
